From September through December of 2003, I was fortunate to spend a lot of time in Corwith Yard

working on a construction project.  Fortunately, I needed to document progress on the project

with a digital camera, so why not shoot some BNSF power while I was there?  Here are some shots during that time.

View from Above

Here is Corwith Yard, looking south from the BNSF's DFO tank.  Power tends to stack up early in the week....

BNSF's Roundhouse at Corwith

Corwith is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you are gonna get!  Typical power is BNSF's heavy haul, six-axle GE units.  Fleets of these newer enginers fill the yard and move high priority intermodal across the system.  BNSF also has several high-horsepower four-axle GM units (i.e., ex-BN GP50s and ex-ATSF GP60Ms) for high speed intermodal service.  Suprisingly, the BNSF still uses older GPs like this one to shuffle cars and make up trains.

A Long Way from Home....

MRL 329 rolled into Corwith on December 7th.  Good to see that older SD45 power still turning some miles....

More Unique Power

BNSF 2458 sits in the sun for a minute near the BNSF "roundhouse."  The roundhouse as we know it has long been razed; however, three tracks are used to service road and switch units.  BNSF 2458 happened to be sitting in perfect light, and this photo is one of my favorites from my time spent in Corwith.

Another November Beauty

I couldn't resist snapping a shot of BNSF 1652.  With perfect light like this, who could resist?

Traditional BNSF Road Power....

What would the BNSF be without its fleet of SD40-2s?  For years, these beast hammered out revenue miles for the BNSF.  Today's fleet is smaller as the GEs have forced the SD40-2s out of high priority intermodal assignments.  Still, a few SD40-2s like 7918 are still around.

The Premier Road Power

Hail to the Chief!  BNSF 5457 slowly rolls into Corwith Yard on 10/24/03.

Good Morning!

You never know when something good will show up.  Two BNSF SD9s were shoved onto a sanding track on 11/24/03.  Funny how that track is right across the street from the construction project....  I am not sure why these units were hanging around this yard, but I took advantage of the moment.

More Antiques

BNSF 6127 was coupled up with BNSF 6154.  Not a bad catch in 2003!  Northtown Yard in Minneapolis usually features SD9s for flat switching in the Bowl Tracks, but this was an unexpected treat.

Rounding out the Package

BNSF 8637 rolled through Corwith on 11/10/03.
